Sunday's 4-song each show was the quick burst of rambunctiousness that Sundays in October should be. The hopeful sign is that there hasn't been a dull moment this Halloween season to speak of, and it's clear, after 3 concerts, that the performers have come prepared, with plenty of musical ammo. Raucous brooders like Novembers Doom "The Pale Haunt Departure", to the modern-day hip hop humor "The Best" by Pumpkinhead, to the one-minute smash and thrash of Fuck On The Beach's "I Know Where You Work", this Sunday show was as entertaining as a carnival. Unpredictable, funny, creative, and entertaining, this Halloween season has produced some of the most original music in concert history.

Saturday night's follow-up to the debut was short, but it hit just as hard as Thursday night's banger. As a matter of fact, there hasn't been a dull moment yet. On both sides, the performer's have their own mindsets of what they want to play and do. The strong use of props by Gary has once again established him as a magician of sorts, in that he comes up with the unpredictable, in such unpredictable and humbling ways. Tonight he began with breakfast on the pool table, and in the background, a 15-minute Pink Floyd psychedelic mindscape of a kitchen was playing. On Andy's side, his material has been rich and October-laiden. He continues to be a pioneer in this kind of music and tonight was another example that Katatonia may wind up being not just band of the Fall, but one of the best acts the basement concerts have ever seen.
DEBUT NIGHT: Thursday, October 1, 2009

Thursday night's Halloween 2009 debut will go a long way in emphasizing the fact that not only has the idea of a "Halloween concert" changed to a more professionally-run, strategically-designed affair, but concerts themselves have turned into such. But rest assured, Thursday's debut was also rambunctiously, and unpredictably fun. This combination produced one of the best shows of the Fall, and there were raves it was better than both the '08 and '07 Halloween Concerts.
